Ever heard the saying, “No pain, no gain”?

It’s usually attributed to working out, losing weight and spending time in the gym. Something I used to do a lot of, though not so much these days. It’s also the name of a movie if I recall correctly. Maybe.

In this case, I am writing about how the term pertains to business.

Now I am certainly not an advocate of pain. My preference has always been to learn from other peoples’ mistakes. And that is a sensible ideology to apply to business. Unfortunately, it does nothing to eliminate the fact that business can be painful. And under current market conditions, it is.

So as a business leader, what must you do? How can you overcome this unavoidable element of many startup businesses today?

Well, if you believe in your product or services and know that you can do it better than it’s already being done, then you must persevere.

You must find those reserves of determination within you, that can move mountains. Because that is what you will have to do.

In many of the biographies I have read, there is a line which appears to often for it to simply be a coincidence.

If I had known it would be this difficult, I am not sure I would have done it.

That applies so heavily, I’m thinking it might be the title of my next book. And the echoes of that sentiment ring through the annals of history. Usually following a monumental achievement which has taken an entire lifetime to achieve. Empires have been built on this.

If it is your dream to make a difference in the world, then know it will take a different type of you to achieve it – Chib Nwokonkor

(I should have been a poet).

Change is rarely simple, or easy or neat. When it is needed though, you must embrace it.

Think about what you must change in yourself to become who you truly want to be.
